Abstract
The formation of the family medicine disipline responsible for the provision of preventive services, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services is dated very recently.Historically, the specialty of family medicine can be traced back to the distant past. Literally, the term “Family Physician” was first used in the beginning of the 20th century. In this article, we reveal the use of the term “family doctor” in the book written by Behçet Uz, four years before Francis Peabody stated the need for family medicine and discuss the similarities of the tasks defined to the family doctor with the concept of family doctors today.
